The Hotel Castillo is located on a hill that can be seen from anywhere in the city, with excellent views of Baracoa and its surroundings. The hotel is a historical site, its construction dates from the years 1737 to 1742 when it was a Spanish fortress called "Castillo Ceboruco or Santa Barbara", built to defend the city from attacks by corsairs and pirates, later it became rural guard barracks until 1959.
