Hemingway's Route

La Habana , La Habana

Walking in the footsteps of Hemmingway tour:

On the morning of your tour, our guide will meet you, and you will be picked up by coach from your hotel, or one closest to your accommodation if coach access is unavailable. Your tour begins with a visit to the Hemingway museum, Finca La Vigia (meaning lookout house) in San Francisco de Paula, which is about 8 miles east of Havana. Hemmingway lived here for 20 years, and it’s where he wrote two of his most famous novels: The Old Man and the Sea, and For Whom the Bell Tolls. This beautiful building is listed on the World Monuments Fund list of 100 most endangered sites, and the National Trust for Historic preservation’s 11 most endangered places.

Next is a short tour of the local village and its attractions, en route to the bar-restaurant Terraza de Cojímar, where you can enjoy the famous Don Gregorio drink and a delicious lunch.

After lunch you will be transferred to Old Havana to learn more about Hemmingway’s history in Cuba, you will visit the historic Ambos Mundos hotel, and see the room he used to stay in. Your tour ends in the way that perhaps Ernest Hemmingway would appreciate most, with a visit to the bar-restaurant El Floridita, a favourite of Hemmingway’s in his day, and still frequented by celebrities, it’s the home of the Daiquiri, whilst here you will be able to relax and taste the classic Daiquiri, where it was invented, you will then be transferred back to your hotel.
