Walking in the footsteps of Hemmingway tour:
On the morning of your tour, our guide will meet you, and you will be picked up by coach from your hotel, or one closest to your accommodation if coach access is unavailable. Your tour begins with a visit to the Hemingway museum, Finca La Vigia (meaning lookout house) in San Francisco de Paula, which is about 8 miles east of Havana. Hemmingway lived here for 20 years, and it’s where he wrote two of his most famous novels: The Old Man and the Sea, and For Whom the Bell Tolls. This beautiful building is listed on the World Monuments Fund list of 100 most endangered sites, and the National Trust for Historic preservation’s 11 most endangered places.

Then you will visit La Cueva del Indio, a beautiful cave discovered in 1920 with a boat ride on the underground river San Vicente, between 2 and 6 meters deep, with a guide who will show you whimsical rock formations that simulate figures of animals and objects.
Afterwards, in an ox cart, a peasant means of labour and personnel transport, you will have the opportunity to travel 7 kilometres from the centre of Viñales into the peasant community República de Chile, surrounded by tobacco farms, with plots of cultivated land and water mirrors.
Afterwards, you will stop at the Finca ‘Laguna de Piedra’, surrounded by mogotes, overlooking the incredible Jutía Valley.
This will connect you with the natural surroundings, its Mogotes: wild vegetation, fruit groves, beautiful pineapple fields, coffee plantations and red soil plots with a variety of seasonal crops. A tobacco shack house stands in a beautiful view of the Finca, where you can learn about the drying and processing of tobacco in its different stages. Further inland, a wooden peasant house with a long doorway and a guano roof is the ideal place to rest on a stool and observe the landscape.
During the tour of the Finca, you will learn about the Arabica and Robusto coffee plantations, the drying, pulping and roasting process, until you get to taste a good Criollo coffee. A tobacco producer will invite you to learn all about his star product, the handmade tobacco, including a visit to the tobacco drying room.
You will have lunch in a cosy place to taste typical dishes of Viñales cooked with firewood, where aromas and flavours will allow you to remember a good cuisine based on pork, Creole chicken, broths with malanga, cooked malanga and its fried foods, beans, corn, yucca with mojo (a mixture of garlic, lard and lemon), homemade desserts and a variety of fresh seasonal vegetables and bottled water to drink, all very organic as there is no electricity on the farm. The kitchen is open for you to enjoy the whole process of preparing and cooking the food.
On the way back to Viñales you will also be able to take spectacular photos of natural and colourful elements that will cause you to stop on occasion.

The city of Trinidad owes its birth to the sugar industry, founded in 1514, under the name of Villa de la Santísima Trinidad, its impressive architecture combines features from the 18th and 19th centuries. Your guide will pick you up in an air-conditioned vehicle and drive to the Mirador del Valle de los Ingenios. Along the way you will enjoy panoramic views of the harbour and the fishing village of Casilda. Stop at the Mirador to enjoy beautiful views of the San Luis Valley, the Escambray Mountains and the Caribbean Sea. Visit El Valle de los Ingenios and the Hacienda Manaca-Iznaga, originally a sugar plantation founded in the 18th century, where you can see the typical buildings of this type of agricultural complex. Its sugar factory, the barracks that housed the slaves, as well as a watchtower. This architectural work was built in the 19th century and declared by the National Commission of Monuments of Cuba as a National Monument of the Nation.
You will then return to Trinidad and visit the Casa del Alfarero where the best of Trinidadian pottery is on display. Later you will stroll through the historic city centre along the main streets of the city, including the Plaza Mayor and the Plaza Real del Jigüe where Trinidad was founded. The tour includes an entrance to a local museum and a visit to the Canchánchara with tasting of typical drinks and lunch at a local restaurant (Esquina 373).
